Made roast duck for lunch today for my hubby. Yums! Today’s the 4th day of Chinese New Year and I’m glad we are rather free today. A good break from all the festivities.

This is the year where I turn 30. When I was younger and studying, I thought I would be really sad or freaked out by this number. It seemed so… old and definitive. Well I got to say now that I’m just days away from the big three, I’m really okay with it. To sum up my thirty years, I have to say I had a good run and did go on that road less traveled like I wanted. It may not be extremely exciting, but it sure was an adventure. Best of all, I must say I have no regrets on any of my decisions made so far. That makes me happy.

However as far as my life goes, I’ve always worked in jobs that worked for the phase that I was at in my life. And again, I find myself at a new junction, wondering what my new endeavor should be. The good thing about turning 30 is that most likely you would have arrived at some sort of maturity gathered from experiences in life that teaches you so much about yourself. So I want to do do something next that still requires plenty of social interaction with people, providing a service as I do it so well, and most of all, it must engage the creative side of me.

I am still in the very preliminary stages of things and I must say it is an industry that is somewhat new to me but not totally foreign, so that’s good. I have to say, I am definitely feeling extremely excited about work again. Thank goodness.

Well, to sum up my life so far, I have great relationships with my family including my in-laws, true friends who will do anything for me, a very cute husband who loves and cherishes me dearly, a fresh start this year where I’ll be in Penang most of the year with my hub and a continued wonderful outlook on life and new passions forming – life is pretty darn wonderful if I dare say so myself.

To the younger me in years past… you are one lucky bitch. And to the older me, please take good care of yourself and continue to enjoy life. Cheers!

Hollandaise

One of my resolutions for the year is to make hollandaise sauce. So yesterday, I did! It was really yummy. Love it. Another reason why it’s impossible to stay skinny.

Pardon the thick leftover christmas ham and black colored bread, that was all I had at home and it’s supposed to be charcoal bread… Not sure how that works but it was given to me so you can’t fault free bread!

Christmas crafts

I love my real tree and how it smells in my house. It’s my first tree in my first house and it’s a good memory to remember.

Since tree ornaments out there are largely expensive and boring, I decided to put my stash of craft possesions to good use by creating my own ornaments.

Original ribbon left over from my wedding.

Equipment needed. I think the bead finishes off the look better so that it won’t look so raw. And the metal wire I use is thinner than nylon string, so it’d give a more floating effect to the ornament.

String the wire through the flower, and tie off with knots below and above the bead with pliers.

Voila! Finished product. You can add glitter to it for more bling too!

Last look hanging on the tree. Looks like a snowflake!

Had a taste of what it’s like

Two couples, one with a one-year-old, flew over to Penang for a trip last weekend. It was loads of fun and laughter, but we didn’t manage to do all of what we thought we might do, like play card games or watch movies or get pedicures together, etc. Most of it was spent eating, shopping, and entertaining the baby. Babies on holidays presents such a different kind of activities and equipment. While most singles or carefree couples will just need to bring money in their wallets, a baby means toys, food, snacks, hot water, bottles, wet wipes, a stroller, a sling, and most importantly, an Iphone or Ipad – true lifesavers sometimes may I add.

Anyways, it’s really a lot of work. Makes me think of what my parents must have gone through looking after me and my sisters. It’s crazy tiring. I feel like the mom has not had a single night’s ample sleep since she gave birth. I was only with the baby for 4 days and I was so sleepy I couldn’t keep my eyes open after they left for the airport. How do mothers do it! I suppose it’s they must be on adrenaline or else they must be constantly tired. Really got to give them respect.

If there’s any lesson in this for me when I get my own baby, it’s that I better bloody teach him/her how to sleep like a pig, eat like a pig and laze like a pig. I guess sows must be the happiest mothers on planet earth huh.
